Exercise 1
Instruction:
- Start
the program and open one of the exemplars. Make a choice of a simple exemplar
for practical reasons. Of course, feel free to browse other exemplars, as well.
-
Try to get familiar with the
interface. Explore the menus. Try to find material databases (refer to the
on-line tutorial, or
in-built help facilities). Look at the contents of the database. Try to change
physical properties of the layers and examine what happens. Make your own
construction.
- Explore the weather
databases.
Assignment:
- Where did you find the material databases?
- Which physical properties of construction materials
can you alter in the program?
- Report the materials used in your own construction,
thickness of layers and calculated U value.
- Now, apply your new wall construction into the open
exemplar (change the wall constructions). Then perform the simulation for a
typical winter week and chosen weather conditions. Report how the energy
consumption for this period changes with changing the wall construction (in
the report, also include the name of the exemplar, information about the
previous and present construction of the walls and the name of the weather
file used).
Please email your assignment results as instructed.
